Hello and yes. It's newsletter-ing time. Do you recall a band called The Strange Death of Liberal England? Aside from rousing gigs with plentiful signage, they were rumoured to be every poster designer and sign-writer's nightmare.
Well, this is the even stranger rebirth of their organ player, under the name dee eye why, and I've done some vocals (and the artwork) for it. It's out in July. Some of the lyrics might make folks clutch their pearls and some of them are about reanimating Frank Sinatra. Head to Mirlo or Bandcamp. Our his ‘n’ hers EPs. But wait, what's this other artwork? Oh yeah, that's my EP. It'll be out in October. I'm making another video for the next song from it RIGHT NOW. What else? Oh yes, I'm waffling on the radio this Sunday, channeling Mr. Blobby with a vocoder and playing a bit of Sparks. Sine-ing off x ************************************************************************************************************ Neighbourhood Updates! The forum is back! There's a new poll! There's been some angry book reviews!
Not only that, there's a sneak preview of some design work I've done for Ursinewave and the forthcoming cassettes, plus a new mix and some video goodness. There's also been the addition of Gilded Variations and Hold Fast: Live at Talking Heads to the ol' discography, with more to be added over the coming months. I have also redesigned the membership badge (now 100% cooler) and the sample is arriving very soon… P. S. If you joined the Neighbourhood via the site, please specify if you'd like a Mirlo or Bandcamp code for Bungalow Legs. ************************************************************************************************************* Did somebody say they wanted fun links to read? No? Well, here's some anyway:
- A Blender plugin to turn your drawings into 3D models.
- A favourite photography series.
-
A KFC training video ripping off Wayne's World.
-
Big old archive of NME magazines.
- Collecting retro portable turntables, with lots of lovely photos.
- I laughed (and cried at the end) reading Studio Electrophonique: The Sheffield Space Age, from the Human League to Pulp (after already watching the documentary, which I also cried at). Every person doing weird, spirited, DIY music projects in their bedroom studios should read it.
- I'd like to share John Was Trying To Contact Aliens again. Also well worth checking out K. Leimer's music from the trailer too.
- LEMON PIGS! LEMON PIGS! LEMON PIGS!
- Music discovery outside of the streaming ecosystem? Yes please.
- The Indie Beat TV and Animation Array get a meniton on cdm.
- This CBBC series that answers the question, what if I made an animation using potatoes and a Tangerine Dream's worth of acid? Thanks to Fako for sending me this gold/horror.
- Tree funerals, as playable records, and haunting sculptures linked to grief. See also: this solemn briefcase.
- Yes, yes, yes, I want the big, stupid pen light. Wonder if they do a pink version “for her”?
