About
Falling somewhere between Bet Lynch and David Lynch, Roberta Fidora is an electronic/experimental musician and illustrator from the UK (previously releasing music under the name Curxes) whose output has incorporated everything from broadcasts in dark forests and giant dancing bear puppets to depressed budgerigars, abandoned rocket testing sites and human taxidermy displays.
She is based on the Isle of Wight, UK, significant for both its influence on the off-kilter, outsider sound of second Curxes album Gilded Cage (2017) and its partial funding of the album via a community arts trust, facilitated by the island's Quay Arts gallery.
In Your Neighbourhood, the first single to be taken from the album (co-written with The Strange Death Of Liberal England’s Andrew E. Wright and produced with friends Deluxe Flamingos), garnered favourable reviews upon its release with MOJO Magazine describing it as “ideal synth pop for melancholics”.
Currently, she is working on a full-length follow up to Gilded Cage after releasing BLACK ARROW and ETHER/ORBIT, two experimental EPs about the British Space Programme, centred around the BLACK ARROW rocket and the Prospero satellite which were released together on a (now sold out) limited edition cassette through The Dark Outside.
